If you’re the type that needs a bit more excitement than just a plate of food set down in front of you, then you probably need to head to JAX Food & Games in Killington, VT.
Open daily at 3 p.m., the seating gets pretty tight at dinnertime, but the real fun starts after dinner anyway. This isn’t your average burger joint, although the burgers are awesome and the local beers are flowing. (Also, the hand cut fries are made to order.)
BONUS: there’s live music every night. In fact, their website URL is actually just the words ‘supporting local music’ – dot com. (Seriously, check out the JAX website.)
We like to refer to it as the ‘bar-cade,’ because it has fun arcade games like Buck Hunter and Golden Tee, when you’ve grown tired of actually shooting deer … or 18 holes. There’s pool and air hockey, too, if you really want to get ‘old school.’
Bar games aside, this place is very family friendly, so don’t be afraid to bring the kids. And on the off-chance you need to do a load of laundry, JAX is located directly above Killington’s only Laundromat.
On hot summer days, head to the large outdoor deck for a cold one. Can’t decide on an item from the extensive menu selection that features something for everyone? Try the self-proclaimed ‘Best Grilled Cheese in Killington’ with caramelized onion and apples. (Add bacon. That’s a no-brainer.) And while it may seem sort of counterintuitive to order a West Coast staple in the Northeast, the Cali Fish Tacos with blackened haddock and mango salsa are “killer, duuude.”
Best of all, the staff are very accommodating and funny, too. We like funny. Don’t you?
